Gerenuk Stands Browsing Wet Season Trail

Amber light from the setting sun warms the tall, dry grasses along the game trail near Pisco, against the heavy gray overcast clouds dominating the sky. A gerenuk stretches its long neck and hind legs to reach the green leaves of a thorny acacia, its slender body tense and alert. The wet season soil looks dark and damp beneath the animal's hooves, while the surrounding scrubland stretches into the distance. The firelight warmth reflects off the animal's reddish-brown coat, highlighting the texture of its fur against the muted greens of the foliage. A shadow falls across the dry earth to the left of the gerenuk's standing form.
