From behind, a team of sled dogs stands in a tight row, their breath visible as faint plumes in the still air. Their thick winter coats appear matted with frost, and the wooden sled runners rest flat against the ice. The animals hold a patient, predatory stillness, heads lowered slightly as they wait. A thin trail of tracks cuts through the pristine snow, leading away into the gray fog.
