Overgrown Bandstand Ruin in Al Hudaydah Park

by Charlene Vincent

Soft, diffused light from heavy overcast skies washes over a decaying bandstand nestled within an overgrown public park near Al Hudaydah. Peeling white paint flakes from the circular roof structure, revealing rusted metal ribs beneath. Thick green nettles and tall grasses surge up through the gaps in the floorboards, their wet leaves glistening under the gray light. Several toppled stone columns lie scattered in the foreground, their bases partially buried in the mud. The composition layers depth as the ruined pavilion sits behind the fallen masonry, while dense vegetation stretches back into the hazy distance. Rainwater pools in the center of the bandstand floor, reflecting the pale, uniform sky above. One jagged piece of broken wood rests against a rusted support beam.
