Abandoned Meteorological Station Roofless Nave Dawn

by Lloyd Parsons

Low sunlight strikes the horizon haze, casting a pale silver glow across the damp stones of a roofless nave near St Petersburg. Inside the hollowed structure, rusted meteorological instruments stand exposed on the upper walls where the roof once was. Thick gray moss rests on the crumbling brickwork, while puddles on the floor reflect the pale sky above. Leading lines formed by the remaining arches draw toward the distant horizon. Late spring moisture hangs heavy in the air, condensing on the cold metal surfaces of the weather station equipment. The scene remains still, with no movement breaking the quiet between the decaying masonry and the instruments that once measured the sky. One puddle near the base of a rusted anemometer mirrors the faint light of the rising sun.
