Nettles and Fog in Lubango Chapel Ruin Dawn in along a vine-choked corridor near Lubango

Nettles and Fog in Lubango Chapel Ruin Dawn

by Chester Perry

Cold silver light from the rainy season dawn spills across a vine-choked corridor near Lubango, illuminating a forsaken chapel yard knee-deep in stinging nettles. Thick fog rests on the ground, obscuring the lower sections of crumbling stone walls while the upper arches remain sharp against the gray sky. Green vines strangle the masonry, their wet leaves glistening with morning moisture. The natural frame of overgrown branches in the foreground directs the gaze toward the silent, abandoned structure. Moss covers the damp stones in patches of deep emerald and charcoal. The air appears heavy with moisture, visible as a soft haze that softens the edges of the distant ruins. One broken pillar leans heavily against a wall of tangled roots.
