Frozen Stone Folly Amidst Monsoon Ruins in among toppled columns and nettles near Ndjamena

Frozen Stone Folly Amidst Monsoon Ruins

by Colin Doyle

Rich amber sunset light washes over a crumbling garden folly in Ndjamena, where moss clings thickly to every jagged stone surface. Toppled columns lie scattered among tall nettles, their broken ends resting on damp earth. Dramatic clouds gather overhead, casting deep shadows across the ruin. A stone fragment hangs suspended in midair just above the crumbling archway, frozen perfectly still alongside falling leaves and dust motes that refuse to settle. The impossible stillness of the debris contrasts with the organic decay of the moss. Water droplets rest on the hanging stone, catching the fading golden glow. One shadow stretches across the wet ground, ending abruptly at the base of the suspended rock.
