Early Morning Fog Over Crumbling Stone Fortress Wall in beneath a broken stone arch in New Brunswick

Early Morning Fog Over Crumbling Stone Fortress Wall

by Daniel Weaver

Cold silver dawn light falls through a thin layer of morning fog that rests on the damp, gray stone of a crumbling fortress wall. Moss and small saplings push up through cracks in the weathered battlements, their green leaves stark against the pale masonry. A broken stone arch frames the view, creating a natural border around the scene where nature slowly reclaims the ancient structure. The texture of the eroded rock is rough and uneven, softened slightly by the moisture in the air. Shadows stretch long and soft across the foreground stones, while the background fades into a misty white haze. One patch of bright green fern rests against the base of the arch, catching the first light of the day.
