Mushrooms on Rotting Log at Sunset in Virginia

Late autumn light spills across a decaying log lying in a Virginia forest, illuminating clusters of fungi with sharp, directional beams. The sky glows with fading amber and violet hues as the sun dips below the tree line. Wind whips through the frame, bending the slender stems of the mushrooms and ruffling the dry, brown leaves scattered on the damp earth. Textures range from the smooth, wet caps of the fungi to the rough, cracked bark of the wood. Shadows stretch long and dark across the forest floor, against the warm highlights on the mushroom gills. one drop of moisture rests on the edge of a cap, catching the last ray of daylight.
