Fly Agaric Mushrooms on Seattle Cliff Edge Twilight

by Kaitlyn Reyes

Cool blue hour light washes over a cluster of bright red fly agaric mushrooms with white spots growing near the base of a silver-barked birch tree. Salt spray coats the rough mossy ground and the lower trunks of the trees along the cliff edge. The sky above is a deep, uniform blue with no clouds visible. The mushrooms stand out vividly against the muted greens and grays of the dry season vegetation. Soft shadows stretch across the uneven terrain where the trees anchor into the rocky soil. The texture of the mushroom caps appears smooth and slightly waxy under the fading natural light. A final shadow falls across the mossy patch at the base of the nearest birch trunk.
