Morel Mushrooms in Eswatini Forest Twilight

by Kiara Malone

Cool blue hour light washes over a cluster of honeycomb-capped morel mushrooms rising from damp leaf litter. Fern fronds arch overhead, their dark green blades against the pale, pitted caps of the fungi. The forest floor is a tapestry of decaying brown leaves and small twigs. A fine mist hangs in the air, catching the dim light and softening the edges of the surrounding vegetation. The low light creates clear quiet intensity. The wet surface of a nearby leaf reflects the faint ambient glow, at the base of the fungi in their natural, shadowed habitat.
