Bands of rusty brown and muted blue fan out in concentric layers across the rough bark of a fallen log. The fungus rests on the wood near a rugged cliff edge where salt spray has left white crystalline streaks on the surrounding stone. Soft, overcast light from a clearing sky eliminates harsh shadows, revealing the velvety texture of the fungal caps against the weathered gray timber.
