Lion's Mane Mushroom on Fallen Beech in Spain

Iridescent white tendrils of a lion's mane mushroom drape over the moss-slicked bark of a fallen beech trunk. Raindrops rest on the fungal spikes and the wet wood surface. Above, the sky holds a bruised twilight purple while a distant town glows with warm orange lights on the horizon. Early spring green shoots emerge from the damp earth beside the log. Water droplets scatter across the frame from a brief sun shower, catching the fading light. The rough texture of the bark contrasts with the soft, hanging spikes of the fungus. One raindrop slides down the edge of a fungal strand, reflecting the distant orange glow against the darkening forest floor.
