Lemon Shark Pup in Kerala Mangrove Nursery

Soft, pale yellow water fills the frame where a lemon shark pup hovers near a coral shelf. The wet season rain has churned the surface, leaving a thick plankton haze that blurs the background into muted greens and grays. A sweeping beam of artificial light cuts diagonally through the murk, illuminating the pup's smooth skin and the fine texture of nearby coral branches. Shadows stretch long across the sandy bottom, while the water remains suspended in a state of quiet stillness. The shark's small fins rest gently against the current, and its eye reflects a faint glint from the overhead beam. One coral polyp extends from the shelf edge, catching the light.
