Carpet Shark on Coral Rubble Night Reef in beside a reef crevice under clear water near Zanzibar

Carpet Shark on Coral Rubble Night Reef

by Jessica O'Connor

Cold moonlight falls through exceptionally clear water, illuminating a carpet shark resting on a patch of broken coral rubble. The shark's mottled brown and white skin blends seamlessly with the jagged stones beneath it. Behind the creature, a dark reef crevice opens into shadow, while slow-moving surface ripples distort the light above into shifting silver patterns. The water remains still, creating a blue-tinted environment where the shark lies motionless. Fine sand grains settle between the coral fragments, and the shark's dorsal fin casts a soft shadow across the uneven seabed. One ray of light catches the edge of a coral shard near the shark's tail.
