Frost Heave Stone Sunset Morelia in near Morelia

Frost Heave Stone Sunset Morelia

by Leroy Spencer

Golden hour light spills across a rugged field near Morelia, illuminating a massive stone lifted abruptly from the earth by a violent frost heave. The rock, rough and gray, tilts precariously on a mound of churned soil, creating a sharp diagonal line that cuts through the frame. Tiny raindrops hang suspended in the air, catching the warm sunbeams like scattered diamonds against the darkening sky. The ground around the stone is cracked and wet, reflecting the amber glow while patches of dry grass stand stiff and brittle at the turn of the seasons. Shadows stretch long and thin across the uneven terrain, showing the sudden disruption of the frozen ground. One droplet rests on the lowest edge of the stone, ready to fall.
