Abandoned Fishing Village Ruins After Rain in among toppled columns and nettles near Muizenberg, Cape Town

Abandoned Fishing Village Ruins After Rain

by Svetlana McDonald

Soft afternoon light falls through low-hanging clouds over a rocky coast near Muizenberg, Cape Town. Toppled stone columns lie scattered among tall green nettles, their surfaces slick with recent rain. Weathered timber beams protrude from crumbling masonry, showing the slow retreat of human presence. The ground is a mix of wet gravel and dark soil, reflecting the grey sky. Salt-crusted edges on the stones hint at the constant spray from the nearby ocean. Moss rests on the shaded sides of the broken pillars, adding vibrant green against the dull grey rock. A jagged fragment of driftwood rests against a fractured wall, its grain swollen with moisture.
