Winter Rain Falls Through Crumbling Montana Roof in in Montana

Winter Rain Falls Through Crumbling Montana Roof

by Wade Singh

Copper-toned light washes over a stone courtyard in Montana as rain descends in straight, vertical lines through a gaping hole where a roof once stood. Snow blankets the cracked flagstones, melting instantly where the cold droplets strike the surface. Gray fog hangs low, softening the edges of the crumbling masonry walls that enclose the space. The missing roof reveals a darkening sky, against the warm glow of the setting sun that highlights the rough texture of the stone and the wet sheen of the falling water. Puddles form in the depressions of the floor, reflecting the fading sky above. One stone pillar stands isolated in the center, its top edge chipped and worn by years of exposure.
