Rain beads on the rough, chalky surface of a white puffball mushroom perched on a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Shaanxi. The sphere sits low against gray, weathered stone, its texture soft and porous. A sudden burst of fine, gray spores erupts from the cap, swirling into the dry mountain air despite the steady rain. Droplets rest on the mushroom's skin and the wet rocks surrounding it.
