Firefly Glow on New York Winter Trail

A tiny, amber light pulses from the segmented abdomen of a firefly resting on a frost-dusted fern frond. The insect's dark exoskeleton contrasts sharply against the pale green leaf, which bears fine white crystals of early winter frost. Behind the subject, a frame of bare, dark oak branches creates a natural vignette, focusing attention on the glowing insect. Low sunlight strikes the horizon haze in the distance, casting a soft, cool blue tone over the scene. A faint, shimmering mist hangs in the air, catching the dim morning light and adding a texture of suspended water droplets. The firefly remains motionless, its bioluminescence the only source of warm color in the cold, still landscape. One droplet of condensation rests on the tip of a nearby twig, reflecting the insect's faint glow.
