Glowing Firefly Abdomen Above Glacial Stream

by Maxwell Haynes

Cold silver light from the dawn sky washes over a thick, white mist hovering just above the dark, moving water of a glacial stream. From a rear perspective, the tiny, segmented abdomen of a firefly glows with a soft, yellow-green bioluminescence that cuts through the gray haze. The insect rests on a wet, dark rock partially submerged in the rushing current. Fine droplets of water rest on the rough texture of the stone and the delicate wings folded along the creature's back. The glow creates a small, warm circle of light against the overwhelming cool tones of the monsoon morning. The water ripples outward from the rock, distorting the faint reflection of the insect's tail.
