Fireflies in Queensland Bamboo Grove Night in in Queensland

Fireflies in Queensland Bamboo Grove Night

by Angie Beard

Tall, segmented bamboo stalks rise vertically against a starless black sky, their pale green surfaces illuminated by a soft, diffuse ground glow. Tiny points of amber and yellow light drift between the culms, marking the presence of fireflies in the humid air. A thin layer of fog rests on the forest floor, softening the base of the plants and scattering the bioluminescent sparks into faint halos. The dry season air holds the mist close, creating a textured veil around the glowing insects. Shadows stretch deeply between the dense clusters of stems, showing the quiet density of the grove. One firefly rests on a leaf blade, its glow sharp against the dark, vertical lines of the bamboo.
