Fireflies Glow in Bamboo Grove at Twilight in from a moonlit breakwater near Habana Vieja, Havana

Fireflies Glow in Bamboo Grove at Twilight

by Rowan Montes

Cool twilight air settles over a dense cluster of tall, green bamboo stalks standing near a moonlit breakwater in Habana Vieja. Tiny points of amber light drift among the vertical culms, marking the presence of fireflies against the deepening blue sky. The bamboo leaves form a textured canopy overhead, catching the faint silver glow of emerging stars. A low, distant haze blankets the horizon line where the dark water meets the sky, softening the background. The rough, segmented texture of the bamboo nodes contrasts with the smooth, glowing orbs of light. One firefly rests on a leaf edge, its bioluminescence sharp against the shadowed green.
