Fireflies Glow Over Snow Sunflowers Twilight in beneath a hard winter sky over snowfields in Lombardy

Fireflies Glow Over Snow Sunflowers Twilight

by Addison Buck

Cobalt twilight washes the Lombardy landscape, where a dense field of tall sunflowers stands motionless beneath a heavy winter sky. Tiny points of amber light rise from the flower heads, the bioluminescence of emerging fireflies piercing the deepening blue. A thick layer of ground fog pools in the low spaces between the stalks, obscuring the soil and softening the base of the plants. The sunflower heads, heavy with seeds, bow slightly under the weight of the evening air. First stars appear as faint pinpricks in the upper sky, their white glow matching the scattered firefly sparks. The contrast between the warm insect lights and the cold, flat horizon creates a sharp visual boundary. One firefly rests on the edge of a sunflower petal, its glow reflecting a faint highlight on the waxy surface.
