Fireflies Over Snowfields Winter Sky Twilight

by Carson Goodman

Midsummer fireflies hover in rhythmic clusters above a snow-covered path, their faint amber glows piercing the deep shadow of a hard winter sky. Ground fog pools heavily in the low places between the snowfields, softening the edges of the frozen terrain while rim light catches the white drifts. The path winds gently through the dark woods, framed by the rule of thirds with the insects suspended in the lower third against the gloom. Tiny points of light flicker against the heavy, cold atmosphere, creating pockets of warmth in the vast, shadowed landscape. One firefly rests near the edge of a snowdrift, its glow reflecting briefly on the icy crust.
