Electric Ray on Silty Floor in Sardinia

Flat noon light penetrates the water column, illuminating fine suspended particles that glitter across the frame. An electric ray lies motionless on a bed of grey silt, its mottled skin matching the seabed texture. Green seagrass blades rise from the bottom behind the creature, extending toward the surface. The water holds a soft, even glow with no long shadows, indicating the overhead sun position. Tiny silt clouds drift slowly past the ray's edges, settling back onto the floor. The animal's eyes sit high on its disc, facing the water column above. One grain of sand rests on the ray's flank.
