Crumbling Canal Lock Gates at Jamaican Overpass

Rotted timber gates hang askew within a decaying concrete canal lock, their warped planks splintered by salt and time. The structure sits beneath a massive, winding overpass interchange, where steel girders cut across the sky. Distant town lights begin to glow on the horizon, casting a warm, orange haze that contrasts with the cool, blue twilight of the Jamaican dry season. Vibrating air shimmers around heavy electrical transformers and tangled cables mounted on nearby pylons, distorting the view slightly. Thick shadows stretch across the wet, cracked pavement, while rusted metal rails run parallel to the lock's edge, guiding toward the fading urban glow. at the edge is a single jagged piece of wood protruding from the lower gate hinge, dark against the fading light.
