Deep indigo water envelops a coral-encrusted mooring line where a school of batfish circles in rhythmic unison. The scene exists beneath a night sky, illuminated only by the sweeping beam of a lighthouse that cuts through the water in a sharp, vertical column. Cool season clarity allows the plankton haze to soften the background, creating a visible gradient from the bright foreground to the distant reef crevice. The batfish display their flat, disc-like bodies and long dorsal fins against the dark water. Coral textures rest on the rope, appearing rough and encrusted under the artificial light. The beam's edge creates a hard line of visibility, while the rest of the reef remains in shadow. One ray of light reflects off the wet surface of a nearby stone.
