Silhouetted Banded Pipefish in Midnight Cebu Waters

Deep blue water fills the frame beside a reef crevice in Cebu. A banded pipefish rests among soft coral branches, its body a dark silhouette against a faint rim light falling from above. The water remains exceptionally clear, revealing the delicate, branching structure of the coral in the cool season. Slow-moving surface ripples stretch across the top of the view, catching the light. The creature blends into the shadowed crevice, its striped pattern visible only where the light grazes its side. A sharp edge of white foam marks the water's surface at the very top.
