Striped Hyena on Colombian Volcanic Ridge at Dawn in on a wind-scoured ridge in Colombia

Striped Hyena on Colombian Volcanic Ridge at Dawn

by Veronica Monroe

Pale morning light floods a wind-scoured ridge where a striped hyena moves across coarse, dark volcanic sand. The animal's bold black and cream stripes stand out against the grayish-brown earth, its low-slung body captured mid-stride with muscles tensed beneath the coat. A fine haze of dust lifts softly from the ground, swirling in the diffused glow of nautical dawn. The sky above is a uniform, pale blue, devoid of clouds, stretching flat and clear over the rugged terrain. Sparse, dry vegetation rests on the rocky edges, while the soft light washes over the hyena's alert ears and the textured grains of sand shifting under its paws. The scene ends with a close view of the animal's shadow stretching long and thin across the uneven ground.
