Striped Hyena Crossing Volcanic Sand at Golden Hour

Pale golden light spills across a wind-scoured ridge near La Mariscal, Quito, illuminating the back of a striped hyena moving away from view. The animal's coarse coat features bold black and tan stripes that stand out against the dark, grainy volcanic sand. Soft dust lifts in thin, swirling ribbons around the hyena's paws, caught in the low winter sun. A thick, grey mist rests on the lower slopes of the ridge, obscuring the distant horizon while the sky above remains a washed-out, pale blue. The ground texture is rough and uneven, scattered with small, angular stones. The hyena's tail hangs low, its tip dark against the lighter fur of its hindquarters.
