Somali River Tidal Bore Under Noon Sun in in Somalia

Somali River Tidal Bore Under Noon Sun

by Penny Gallegos

A massive wall of churning water surges upstream through the estuary, its white crest breaking against the flat glare of the midday sun. Thick mist hangs low over the surface, softening the horizon where the river meets the sky. The water reflects the harsh light, creating a shimmering path that contrasts with the darker, turbulent flow beneath. Along the riverbanks, sparse green vegetation stands saturated from the rainy season, bending slightly under the weight of recent storms. The wave dominates the left third of the view, pushing forward with geologic force. At the far right edge, a solitary dark rock juts from the foam, anchoring the chaotic motion of the rising tide.
