Amber firelight warms the rising crest of a tidal bore surging up the river near Dar es Salaam. Low-hanging clouds press against the horizon, casting deep shadows across the wet sand of the wave-cut shoreline. White foam churns along the water's edge, against the dark, damp earth. Sparse coastal grasses stand brittle on the bank, catching the fading sun in the dry season. The water reflects the orange sky, creating a shimmering path that stretches toward the distant horizon. A jagged edge of white spray rests on the dark water, marking the moment the tide turns.
