Tidal Bore Wave Rushing Up River Under Noon

by Paula Shaw

Sunlight falls through overhead leaves, casting shifting patches of bright white and deep green across the churning water. A massive wall of river water rises steeply, moving upstream with visible white foam breaking at its crest. The river surface ahead is flat and dark, contrasting sharply with the turbulent, frothing face of the bore. Dappled light dances on the wet, dark mud of the riverbank in the foreground. Above, the sky remains a solid, unbroken blue, devoid of clouds despite the heavy movement below. The low angle emphasizes the sheer height of the water wall against the leafy canopy. A sharp line of white foam marks the boundary where the wave meets the calmer water.
