Radiation Fog Fills Cusco River Valley at Dawn in over a horizon of stacked thunderheads near San Cristobal, Cusco

Radiation Fog Fills Cusco River Valley at Dawn

by Nelson Bridges

Thick, milky white fog blankets the deep river valley floor, obscuring the water's surface completely. Above this sea of vapor, the sharp, dark silhouettes of stacked thunderheads rise against the pale pre-dawn sky. First light from the rising sun touches the highest cloud peaks, painting them in soft gold and pink while the valley remains in cool, blue shadow. The winter air holds the fog low, creating a flat, seamless horizon line where the white mist meets the dark mountain ridges. Tiny droplets condense on the nearest rock edges in the foreground, glistening with the faint morning glow. The scene ends with a jagged ridge of black stone cutting sharply through the white cloud layer.
