Silhouetted Jabiru Stork in Goa Wetland Morning Fog
by Dmitri Haney
A dark silhouette of a Jabiru stork stands knee-deep in the shallow waters of a Goa wetland, its massive form stark against the bright, hazy sky. Late morning light reflects intensely off the rippling surface, turning the water into a sheet of shimmering silver that washes out the background details. A thin layer of cool-season fog rests on the low horizon, softening the distant mangrove line into a pale gray wash. The bird’s long, curved neck stretches upward, and its broad wings remain folded tightly against its body, creating a solid, geometric shape. Fine ripples distort the reflection of the stork’s legs, while the water’s edge reveals patches of dark, wet mud and scattered green reeds. The contrast between the black feathering and the blinding white glare of the sky emphasizes the raw scale of the bird.
