Quarry Rock Layers Near Victoria Falls Service Road

Exposed strata of sedimentary rock rise in jagged, terraced layers along the edge of a service road. Thick industrial pipes run parallel to the excavation, their metal surfaces dull and wet under a sky heavy with late spring rain. The light is flat and diffused, washing out deep shadows while highlighting the rough, gritty texture of the fractured stone. A light drizzle coats the gravel in a sheen of grey water, reflecting the overcast sky above. The service road cuts a straight line through the scene, bordered by the raw, earth-toned walls of the quarry. Raindrops bead on the rusted metal of the pipes and slide down the vertical faces of the rock, leaving dark streaks against the pale beige and rust-colored layers.
