Copper Toned Fossil Cliff in Davie Village

by Tina Yates

Strata of sedimentary rock rise vertically, displaying distinct horizontal bands of ochre, charcoal, and pale beige that mark ancient fossil layers. The stone surface appears rough and weathered, catching the low-angle golden light that washes the entire face in a warm copper glow. Above, dramatic clouds gather in heavy, textured formations, their undersides darkening against the fading sky. Converging lines of the cliff edge draw toward a distant vanishing point, showing the geological scale. The turn of seasons is visible in the sparse, dry vegetation clinging to crevices between the rock layers. A sharp shadow falls across the lower strata, defining the depth of the erosion patterns.
