Predawn Frost on Autumn Cabbage Furrow in beside a tractor track through dark soil near Concordia

Predawn Frost on Autumn Cabbage Furrow

by Kwame Guthrie

Silver frost crystals coat the broad, waxy leaves of a cabbage furrow, turning the vegetable greens into pale, metallic shades. Dark, churned soil lines the tractor track beside the crop, absorbing the weak morning light. Overhead, dramatic cloud layers press low against the horizon, filtering the first light of dawn into a soft, diffused glow. The mist hangs just above the ground, blurring the distance between the frost-covered heads and the heavy sky. One row of cabbages stretches diagonally across the frame, their edges sharp against the soft, gray atmosphere. The texture of the frost glimmers faintly where the light touches the curved surfaces of the outer leaves.
