Frost-Silvered Cabbage Furrow Beside Belize Tractor Track

by Johnnie Snow

Pale morning light touches a low mist hovering over dark, rich soil in Belize. A long furrow of cabbages stretches across the frame, their broad leaves coated in a delicate layer of silver frost. The frost glimmers where the first rays of sun strike the leaves, against the deep brown earth. Fine dust and chaff drift slowly through the air, catching the low light. A worn tractor track runs parallel to the crop row, pressing into the dark ground. The dry season air hangs still, preserving the crisp texture of the frost on the green foliage. At the edge of the frame, a shadow from a leaf falls sharply across the dusty soil.
