Hoarfrost on Rusty Wire Fence at Dawn in through low marine fog in Chad

Hoarfrost on Rusty Wire Fence at Dawn

by Jim Dean

Pale, feathery ice crystals branch outward from the thin, corroded strands of a wire fence, their white filaments glowing against the soft amber light of sunrise. The metal beneath the frost appears deep orange and flaky, its texture rough and pitted. A thick marine fog fills the background, diffusing the horizon into a soft, gray wash. Tiny droplets of sea spray hang in the air, catching the first rays of the sun and creating a shimmering haze around the fence. The frost patterns are intricate and delicate, standing in sharp contrast to the heavy, weathered metal. At the edge of the frame, a single crystal rests on a rusted knot, its facets catching the light with a brief, sharp glint.
