Deep shadow dominates the frame where an orca breaches a rock shelf sealed beneath winter ice in Russia. A thin rim of nautical dawn light outlines the animal's sleek black skin against the pale blue of the glacier wall. Suspended particles glitter in the cold water column, catching the faint illumination. The massive dorsal fin cuts through the surface tension, creating a sharp contrast with the surrounding ice. Tiny bubbles rest on the wet texture of the flank as the creature hovers in the drifting weightlessness. One strand of algae hangs from the ice edge above the dark water line.
