Golden light pierces through thick marine fog near Stamford, illuminating a shimmering oil slick on the dark water surface. Thin bands of iridescent color—violet, teal, and amber—spread across the black liquid, catching the low sun. Dry leaves skitter rapidly across the foreground, caught in gusts that ripple the oily sheen. The water recedes into layers of gray mist, fading from sharp detail in the front to soft blurs in the distance. Silhouetted reeds stand motionless along the edge, framing the glowing patch of color. One fallen leaf rests on the oily film, its brown veins contrasting against the metallic rainbow swirl.
