Iridescent Cloud Before Dawn in South Carolina

Pale sea spray hangs suspended in the pre-dawn air along the South Carolina coast, catching the sweeping beam of a lighthouse that cuts through the darkness. A massive cumulus tower rises on the right, its edges sharp against the deep indigo sky. Beside it, a smaller cloud layer shimmers with iridescent blues and violets, a thin film of moisture refracting the artificial light. The beam sweeps across the wet, dark ocean surface, leaving a trail of silver foam. Heavy autumn leaves cling to low branches in the foreground, their brown edges blurred by the mist. The light fades into shadow at the bottom of the frame, highlighting the texture of the water droplets on a nearby wooden railing. one drop of condensation rests on the corner of the frame.
