Deadly Amanitas in Ugandan Pine Forest in on a fern-lined forest floor in Uganda

Deadly Amanitas in Ugandan Pine Forest

by Eric Bush

Creamy white caps of deadly amanitas rise beside a bed of vibrant green ferns on the forest floor. Tall pine trees frame the cluster as late afternoon sunlight falls through the canopy, painting dappled patterns of gold and shadow across the damp earth. Thick mist hangs low among the lower branches, softening the distant trunks into a gray haze. The fungal stems show smooth surfaces with subtle brown scales near their bases. Fern fronds curl outward around the mushrooms, forming a textured green carpet that rests on the soil. A small pool of water at the edge of a leaf reflects the muted sky above.
