Late Summer Toadstool Colony on Mossy Boulder in near Bonn

Late Summer Toadstool Colony on Mossy Boulder

by Bernard Ventura

Soft, diffused light from a nearby water surface illuminates a cluster of toadstools rising from a thick carpet of emerald moss on a grey boulder. Late summer rain leaves the mushroom caps slick with tiny droplets, their tan and brown caps contrasting against the wet greenery. The stone surface appears rough and ancient, covered in velvety patches of vegetation that cling tightly to the rock. Fine rain blurs the background slightly, keeping the focus sharp on the fungal stems and the glistening moss. Water droplets slide slowly down the curved edges of the largest mushroom cap, catching the reflected light before falling onto the moss below.
