Manatees Nuzzling in Mumbai Spring Channel
Steel-blue ambient light permeates the exceptionally clear water of a warm spring channel near Dharavi, Mumbai. Two manatees glide in slow motion, their grey, wrinkled skin illuminated by the submerged glow. Their heads press together in a gentle nuzzle, creating a soft focal point against the vast, open water. Slow-moving surface ripples distort the light above, casting shifting patterns of luminous blue and silver across their backs. The wide panoramic view reveals the depth of the channel, where the water remains transparent enough to show the gentle undulation of their flippers. Fine bubbles rise from their breathing, catching the dim evening light before bursting at the surface.
