Lion's Mane Fungus on Fallen Beech in England

by Tanner Becker

Dappled late-afternoon light falls through green leaves, creating patches of gold and shadow on a weathered beech log lying on the forest floor. A large Lion's Mane mushroom grows from the grey bark, its dense, white, icicle-like spines hanging down in a thick cluster. Thin fog drifts low over the damp earth, softening the background into a pale haze. The rough, textured wood rests beside patches of green moss. The white spines of the fungus hang against the darker trunk, and a tiny droplet of moisture rests on the tip of a lower strand.
