Old Man's Beard Lichen on Conifer in Rainy Guyana

Pale gray strands of old man's beard lichen drape heavily from a dark conifer branch, soaking wet under steady rain. Moonlight falls through the canopy, casting a cool, blue-white glow that makes the water droplets rest on the fibrous lichen and the fern fronds below. The forest floor is a carpet of green ferns, their surfaces slick with rain, creating a mirror-like sheen in the dim pre-dawn light. Droplets slide down the rough bark of the tree, merging with the hanging lichen. The scene is still, with the rain falling in a consistent rhythm. The contrast between the dark wood and the pale, wet lichen defines the texture, while the ferns frame the base of the trunk. One drop hangs from the tip of a lichen strand, reflecting the faint moonlight.
