Birch Forest Dawn Fog Sierra Leone
by Destiny Wall
Cold silver dawn light falls through a grove of birch trees, illuminating their white bark where thin layers peel away to reveal darker underlayers. Ferns line the forest floor, their fronds heavy with moisture from the monsoon season. Ground fog pools in the low spaces between the trunks, creating soft white drifts that obscure the base of the trees. The light is pale and diffuse, casting long, faint shadows that stretch across the damp earth. Each tree stands in a minimalist arrangement, their vertical lines against the horizontal spread of the ferns. The peeling bark catches the silver light, creating a textured pattern against the muted greens and grays of the surrounding undergrowth. One patch of exposed bark near the center shows the rough, fibrous texture where the outer layer has curled back.
