Moss-Covered Monastery Wall in North Korean Ruin in along a vine-choked corridor in North Korea

Moss-Covered Monastery Wall in North Korean Ruin

by Adrienne Bryan

Thick green moss and pale gray lichen carpet the crumbling limestone blocks of an ancient monastery wall. Vines twist heavily around the stonework, their leaves catching the bright midmorning sun that cuts through the clear mountain air. Low-lying ground fog pools in the crevices and shadows beneath the corridor, creating a soft white blanket that contrasts with the rough, weathered texture of the stone. The corridor stretches deep into the background, where layers of fading masonry and receding vegetation disappear into the hazy distance. Sunlight highlights the moisture on the moss, making the surface appear damp despite the dry atmosphere. A dark shadow falls across the base of the wall, marking the edge where the stone meets the fog-covered earth.
